Dynamic server configuration with p4 configure

Jan 24, 2011

Amongst the many new features in the 2010.2 release, the new p4 configure command allows some server parameters to be changed dynamically, without restarting the server.

That means that temporarily enabling process monitoring, for instance, no longer requires a scheduled (if brief) server outage. Instead, I just run:

p4 configure set monitor=1

If you run a large and busy Perforce server, you'll appreciate that added flexibility. There are several other server parameters that can be adjusted this way, many of which are performance related. The command help for p4 configureand p4 configurableshas more information. Of course, be sure to check with Perforce Support before adjusting any configurables that you're not familiar with.
