2003 Perforce User Conference

   Jeff Anton, Perforce Software

Jeff is a software developer at Perforce Software. Jeff has worked on database internals for more than 15 years at U.C. Berkeley, Ingres, Illustra, Informix, and other companies. At Perforce, Jeff works on the Perforce Server. He implemented the Perforce Proxy, I18N support and the B-tree storage methods. Jeff will be presenting Distributed Development with Perforce.

   Richard Baum, Perforce Software

Richard has been working with computers since 1978. He has worked in various consulting and support roles at Lehigh University, Ingres, Lucent Technologies, and other companies. He is currently a Technical Support Engineer at Perforce. When not answering customer calls, Richard likes to travel with his wife and children. He will be presenting his talk, Return from the Swamp: Understanding Perforce Server Performance, along with Michael Shields.

   Christopher Berarducci, Handspring

Chris is a software process and automation architect at Handspring, and the developer of the Handspring Treo. Interested in working with the Macintosh, Chris made a 1992 leap of faith that brought him to Apple, where he CO-developed a non-intrusive build and release automation system (giving him the opportunity to be at the beach sipping margaritas unbeknownst to developers). Chris discovered Perforce after moving to WebTV/Microsoft in 1997, where he designed a farm of 60 machines dedicated to building and releasing Windows CE-based products. At Handspring since 2000, Chris believes that automation, process, and interoperable tools are an enabling technology allowing for faster, more reliable development without compromising on product quality. Merge as You Go will be the topic of Chris's talk.

   Colin Bodell, VA Software

Our Keynote Speaker on Friday is Colin Bodell, Senior Vice President of Product Development at VA Software. He leads SourceForge engineering and product management. Bodell came to VA from WebGain, a spin-off of BEA, in October 2001. During his seventeen–year career, Bodell has served as a senior executive at WebGain, Intellicorp and Merant (Micro Focus). As executive vice president of engineering and product management for WebGain, Bodell delivered WebGain Studio, Application Composer and Business Designer products to complete the WebGain end-to-end product portfolio. At Intellicorp, Bodell served as executive vice president, chief operating officer and vice president of product development, helping Intellicorp refocus on SAP R/3-centric business process management, enterprise application integration and CRM eBusiness solutions for Fortune 1000 companies. Bodell received a bachelor's degree in computer science from Coventry University in England. Colin's presentation is Monkeys and Penguins and Dogs, Oh My!

   Jeff Bowles, Piccolo Engineering, Inc.

Jeff is a Perforce Consulting Partner and Certified Trainer. He has held positions at large companies and start-ups, and is the principal consultant for Piccolo Engineering, Inc. Jeff will be speaking on Handoffs 101: A Survey of Expectations that the Build Engineer Encounters.

   Richard Brooksby, Ravenbrook

Richard is director and senior consultant at Ravenbrook. He has conducted numerous product strategy, project management, software process consultancy, development, and programming engagements for various well-known software organizations, including Perforce and Symbian. He has also planned and implemented programs of software engineering process improvement based on the Capability Maturity Model. Along with Peter Jackson, Richard will be presenting Changing How You Change.

   Tommy Fad, National Instruments

Tommy is a programmer at National Instruments. He is focused on modeling hardware and software for Test and Measurement systems. Previously, he has worked as a software engineer developing financial software, a systems/network administrator for an Internet Service Provider, and a teaching assistant at the University of Texas in Austin. He helps manage, support, and automate four Perforce servers in three different countries, with over 800 developers. When he is not in the office, Fad can be found in the woods, mountain biking. Tommy's talk is User Management with Perforce.

   Peter Jackson, Symbian Ltd.

Peter works for Symbian on software configuration management and is responsible for the Perforce service there. A system manager and developer by background, he joined Psion in 1994 and became part of Symbian when it was formed in 1998. In 1999, he was part of the team responsible for introducing Perforce into the company and organizing the accompanying process changes and training. In an expanding company, he finds that this area is never dull and he's been involved with it ever since. Changing How You Change will be the topic of Peter talk which he will be presenting with Richard Brooksby.

   Anders Johnson, WIS Technologies

A 13-year veteran of integrated circuit design and verification, Anders has seen many a project live or die by its configuration management strategies. He was a configuration management czar at Broadcom, and is currently administering Perforce at WIS Technologies. Anders' experience also includes five years with Xilinx. He earned his BS/EE from Caltech and MS/EE from Stanford. Anders will be speaking on Codeline Management for Evolutionary Development.

   Roger March, Matrix Semiconductor

Roger has 30 years of experience in Electronic Design Automation, working primarily in the area of high-performance microprocessors. He has developed circuit and logic simulators, physical design verification and analysis tools, and CAD infrastructure to support design. He has held design and CAD positions at Data General, Zilog, MIPS and SGI. He is currently CAD manager at Matrix Semiconductor. Roger's topic is File Systems and Perforce: Highly Scalable, High-Performance Perforce Server Environments which he will be presenting with Shiv Sikand.

   Christopher Seiwald, Perforce Software

Our keynote speaker on Thursday is Christopher Seiwald, CTO and Founder of Perforce Software. He is an authority on SCM technology, having spent nearly 20 years in the field. Prior to founding Perforce Software, Christopher was Director of Network Development at Ingres Corporation, a developer of database and development tools. In addition to his role as the Net products architect, he spearheaded the company's SCM project, where he pioneered the model of "developer-centric" SCM and the concept of providing software engineers maximum control with minimum interference. He lives in Alameda, California with his wife and six children.

   Michael Shields, Perforce Software

Michael has developed and supported software since 1977. He has specialized in server optimization for software products including Perforce, Sybase and Ingres. He is currently a Technical Support Engineer at Perforce. He is the author of p4loga, a Perforce log analyzer. His hobbies include debugging code at the instruction level. Michael will present Return from the Swamp: Understanding Perforce Server Performance with Richard Baum.

   Shiv Sikand, Matrix Semiconductor

Shiv received his BS and MS degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. His main interests are in design automation and verification techniques for integrated circuits and Open Source software development. He is currently on the CAD staff at Matrix Semiconductor. Shiv's topic, File Systems and Perforce: Highly Scalable, High-performance Perforce Server Environments, will be presented with Roger March.

   Tony Smith, Perforce Software

Tony has worked for Perforce for three years and is primarily responsible for the European technical support team. Tony also does some development work for Perforce, including P4FTP and the Perl and Ruby interfaces. Prior to joining Perforce, Tony spent several years at Ingres before becoming a developer and then a Technical Director for Sema Group's telecom division. The subject of Tony's talk is Scripting with Perforce Using the Perl and Ruby Interfaces.

    Tom Tyler, Go2Group

Tom started his career at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in 1990 and has since worked in various software development organizations. He is an independent consultant perfecting the field of software production line automation. Tom is actively involved with the Independent Computer Consultants Association (ICCA) and is a member of the ANSI/EIA Working Group developing the National Consensus Standard for Configuration Management (ANSI/EIA 649 Revision A). Tom's topic is Perforce at Monster, A Web Content Management Case Study.

   Laura Wingerd, Perforce Software

Laura is the Vice President of Product Technology at Perforce Software. She currently works with developers of new and emerging products, and continues to work with customers in her role as Perforce product expert. Her mission is to reveal the power and elegance of Perforce to everyone. Laura will be presenting A Bug's Life.

   Jo Woodison, Mandarin Consulting

Jo has been working in the computer industry for sixteen years. Her experience includes roles in product development, consulting, teaching, and pre- and post-sales support. She has worked in many different environments across many different platforms, architectures, databases and of course, SCM systems. Her SCM system of choice is, naturally, Perforce. After working at Perforce Software (the company), Jo continued training and consulting by becoming a Perforce Consulting Partner and Certified Trainer. Originally from England but having spent most of the last decade in the USA, Jo is happy to be back in the States after living in Australia for almost two years. Jo will be speaking on Managing Software Re-Use with Perforce.
