Selecting Files to Add

The Open for add... command lets you select which files you will add to the Perforce depot. (See Adding New Files for more information.) You can select files by one of two methods:

By path:
With this method, P4Web looks for new files in the workspace directory shown. (Files that have no matching depot counterparts are considered "new".) You can choose whether P4Web scans subdirectories, or just the current path level, for new files to add.

If you want to add files that are found a directory other than workspace directory shown, first use the Path Browser to navigate to the corresponding depot path, then use the Open for add... command to select files.

If you don't see this option on the "Open for add" page, your client view mapping may be the problem -- see below.

By name:
With this method, you provide the names of files to add. These files do not have to exist in your workspace yet, although they must be present by the time you submit them to the depot.

You can list multiple files in the text input area on the page. Each file must appear on its own line. The files you list are assumed to be in the path shown. If you list files with pathnames, the pathnames are assumed to be subdirectories of the path shown.

After you've selected files to add, click "Continue". This takes you to the Open for Add page, where you can verify the files you selected, and choose options for how they will be opened.

Client view mapping

Perforce uses your client view to figure out how a file's name and location in your workspace are mapped to its name and location in the depot. If you have a simple client view mapping, selecting files to add is easy. However, if your client view mapping is complicated, you may find that:

You may need to edit your client spec to correct the view mapping that is causing the problem.
