Perforce Internationalizes Software Configuration Management System for Release 2001.2

Perforce 2001.2 supports Unicode, character set translation, and Japanese localized version

Perforce Software, Inc. today announced the release of version 2001.2 of its Software Configuration Management (SCM) system. Perforce 2001.2 will further enable globally dispersed software development teams to work together easily across multiple platforms. Perforce 2001.2 supports Unicode file types and multi-platform character set translation, and includes a localized Japanese version.

Perforce Software Configuration Management (SCM) is a comprehensive system that helps software development teams efficiently manage large, complex development projects spanning multiple operating system platforms.

Specific features in Perforce 2001.2 include:

  • Server support for Unicode content, enabling a single repository to serve worldwide developers by simultaneously managing text in any and all written languages.
  • Support for automatic character set translation among multiple platforms, making it possible for developers to share content in heterogeneous environments.
  • A version of Perforce localized for the Japanese market.

"We are excited for Perforce users to gain access to these powerful new internationalization features," said Nigel Chanter, chief operating officer of Perforce Software. "This advance is part of an ongoing effort to make Perforce a global competitor in the SCM market."

The release of Perforce 2001.2 follows an exclusive agreement signed in July with Toyo Corporation to distribute the Perforce SCM system in Japan. From the beginning, Perforce's architecture has been designed to be efficient over long- latency networks such as WANs and the Internet. Perforce's protocol handles global software development projects with ease.
