TUI InfoTec Chooses Perforce
Software Configuration Management

Munich, 7 March 2002 - TUI InfoTec, the internal system house of the Preussag Group, has selected Perforce Software Configuration Management (SCM) to manage the changes it makes during its software development. Perforce SCM is a comprehensive system known for its speed and ease of use, especially in large distributed development environments.

"We have been very happy with the running of the project," says Ralf Oyen, an SCM team leader in the software engineering department at TUI InfoTec, and the one responsible for the decision-making process and conversion to Perforce SCM. "Our team ultimately decided in favour of the Perforce solution as this SCM system places emphasis primarily on simple configuration, and fast and stable implementation".

The Hanover, Germany-based TUI InfoTec chose Perforce primarily because a single, central SCM system was required for 200 developers working at different locations (in Germany and Portugal) and on different platforms (Windows NT and UNIX - IBM RS/6000). Perforce SCM works equally well on more than 50 different development platforms via local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN) or the Internet.

TUI InfoTec also chose Perforce SCM because it could be integrated into TUI InfoTec's established compilation and distribution processes. Additionally, the company's engineering department wanted to use Perforce SCM for the IBM OS/390 MVS Mainframe Cobol environment. This was accomplished by using the OS/390 OE/USS (UNIX Systems Service) on the IBM MVS as a bridge to the MVS file system.

It took just 9 months for TUI InfoTec to completely replace their assorted SCM tools with Perforce SCM. The evaluation phase lasted nearly two months. Since then, approximately 20 applications have been moved under Perforce control. For each system implementation, the development team required only four days preparation, half a day's training and one day for converting the sources from the previous system to the Perforce system.
