Perforce Continues to Gain Popularity in Game Development Market

Number of Games Companies Using Award-Winning Perforce SCM Increases By 40 Percent

Perforce Software, Inc. announced today, at the 2002 Game Developer Conference, a 40 percent increase in game company customers over last year. These companies account for nearly 2,000 game developers who manage their digital assets with Perforce SCM, the Fast Software Configuration Management (SCM) system.

Perforce SCM won Game Developer Magazine's recent 2001 Front Line Award for excellence and innovation in game development tools, in the programming category -- further evidence of Perforce SCM's increased presence in this market.

"The switch to Perforce was a big decision for Radical and, in hindsight, was one of the best decisions we've made," said Cliff Haman, information technology director at Radical Entertainment. "Perforce SCM has dramatically improved our development process. It's fast and stable. The client-server architecture allows employees to work from home. The setup and maintenance of the server is simple and straightforward, and the seldom needed technical support is the best I've ever seen."

Perforce Software Configuration Management (SCM) is a comprehensive system that helps games developers efficiently manage the changes involved during the development of large, complex software projects spanning multiple operating systems.

"Games developers, like all of us, are looking for faster and more efficient ways to create software," said Christopher Seiwald, chief technology officer and president of Perforce Software, Inc. "Our success has been in providing an SCM system that doesn't get in the developer's way and that can handle today's myriad of digital assets."

About the Perforce SCM System

Perforce is a comprehensive software configuration management (SCM) system that includes version control, workspace management, atomic change transactions, and a unique and powerful branching model. While it is a high-powered SCM system, Perforce is also easy to use, enabling developers to get up to speed in less than a day. The product's client/server architecture manages workspaces that reside on local disks, so that a network outage never cuts users off from their work. Perforce's high availability database provides for online backups, resulting in virtually zero downtime for companies, no matter where they operate.
