Perforce Software's Tithing Program Targets Tsunami Relief

As part of its semiannual corporate tithing program, Alameda-based Perforce Software has donated on behalf of its employees more than $23,000 to Asian tsunami relief efforts.

Twice a year, each of the company's 80 employees chooses the non-profit agencies to which the company should donate money. Employees directed a total of more than $45,000 to non-profit agencies in the local community and worldwide in January, with more than half of that amount going to tsunami relief.

"We recognized that there was an urgent need to help those affected by the tsunami, and realized that sending aid was important to our employees," said Carolyn Ewing, vice-president of operations at Perforce Software. "Our employees directed $11,750 to several organizations that are providing relief and reconstruction assistance to the tsunami-affected areas. Company executives then decided to match that, giving a total of $23,500 to the relief efforts."

On the local level, employees directed $8,525 to children's programs, $4,550 to social programs, $3,450 to health organizations, $2,750 to the arts, and $4,250 to animal care and rescue during this round of tithing.

Since the company began its tithing program in May 1999, it has given $215,000 to Alameda non-profits and $175,000 to other Bay Area agencies. California charities have received $17,250.
