VA Software SourceForge Enterprise Edition
Launches Extensible Integration
with SCM Tools
Perforce joins growing list of SCM tools
integrated with SourceForge Enterprise Edition
FREMONT, Calif., June 21, 2005 - VA Software Corporation (NASDAQ: LNUX), a leading provider of software, information and community support for IT and development professionals, today launched an in-depth, out-of-the-box integration with Perforce, the Fast Software Configuration Management System, as well as a new, simplified SCM adapter that enables other software configuration management tools to be rapidly integrated with SourceForge® Enterprise Edition.
SCM tools like Perforce have grown in their speed and sophistication and are now key components in the application development cycle," said Colin Bodell, CTO of VA Software. "SourceForge already supports out-of-the-box integrations with CVS and Subversion. Support for Perforce has been a frequent request from our users, so this was a logical next step for us. In addition to these standard integrations, our new SCM adapter makes it easy for our customers to integrate SourceForge Enterprise Edition with other SCM tools they may have deployed to ensure various groups can seamlessly work together."
With the integration, Perforce users can, through SourceForge Enterprise Edition's web-based interface, add repositories and define access permissions. In addition, users can associate Perforce changelists with specific assets in SourceForge, whether issues, bugs, documents, tasks, or discussions. As a result, stakeholders can immediately see which issues, bugs or tasks each code submission was intended to address. This association enhances visibility into the development process and enables traceability throughout the lifecycle - providing important context to project activities and decisions.
"Perforce's open architecture allows us to integrate with developer tools selected by an organization," said Kathy Baldanza, VP of engineering at Perforce Software. "In the case of the integration with SourceForge Enterprise Edition, managers, QA teams, and other engineers can now use SourceForge to easily access the project-critical information tracked by Perforce."
Additional benefits of the integration between SourceForge Enterprise Edition and Perforce include:
- Enhanced IP protection with secure, fine-grained access controls to restrict access to specific SCM repositories
- Centralized visibility into multiple repositories, including commits and commit history
- Automated repository creation and GUI-based user administration without leaving the development environment
In addition to Perforce, SourceForge Enterprise Edition customers can now build simple integrations between SourceForge and virtually any SCM solution. Leveraging the extensible SourceForge architecture the SourceForge SCM Adapter enables users to associate code in any SCM repository to SourceForge assets. This not only improves IP access and management, it enables organizations to improve development efficiency and software asset reuse without having to standardize on a single SCM solution across the enterprise.
