Perforce Joins Linux Foundation, Increases Commitment to Open Source Collaboration

Alameda, Calif. (January 10, 2013) — Perforce Software today announced it has joined the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux – the renowned open source operating system. This membership is part of a continued commitment by Perforce to encourage collaborative software development on both sides of the firewall.

Dedicated to supporting developers in the environments they want to use, Perforce recently released Perforce Git Fusion, which improves the experience of using Git, the popular open source Distributed Version Control System (DVCS). Git Fusion extends Perforce's enterprise version management to Git repositories, bringing powerful new capabilities to Git developers and enabling large organizations to make better use of projects built in Git.

As a member of the Linux Foundation, Perforce will contribute to the Linux development community to accelerate software development and build more innovative products faster.

"We recognize the importance of supporting organizations and workflows that encourage software development from multiple sources," said Don Marti, technical marketing manager for Perforce Software. "By joining the Linux Foundation, we are better able to help our customers who face the challenge of blending the needs of enterprise development with third-party open source development."

"Linux and the collaborative development model can provide a blueprint for companies that want to maximize open source best practices and their investments in the operating system," said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer services at The Linux Foundation. "We're looking forward to the work we can do with Perforce Software to advance Linux."

The complete Perforce Software Version Management system is available at no cost for up to 20 users, open source projects and educational institutions. These free programs provide Perforce's complete and most up-to-date features and products, including Perforce Git Fusion.
