2014 Develop Awards - and the Award Goes to Perforce!
I was very pleased to attend the Develop Conference and Awards in Brighton, UK this week. Besides being a great conference in a beautiful location, Perforce won an award, so it was definitely a fun and exciting event!
Having been nominated and just missing out last year, it was particularly pleasing to be this year's winner of the Develop Industry Excellence Award in the Production Tools category.
The Develop Industry Excellence Awards are an annual program from Develop, a website and magazine focused on the game development sector. The Awards, which focus on creativity, teamwork and innovation, are the only peer-voted recognitions for UK and European games developers.
At it turned out, most of the other nominees in our category are either Perforce partners or customers so Perforce would be a winner regardless! Indeed the majority of the nominees and winners across all 22 award categories were Perforce customers including Studio of the Year, Rockstar North, developers behind the Grand Theft Auto series.
This year we were really excited to run a competition for small and startup independent studios to join us for the awards dinner. The winners were Kinesthetic Games, a start-up studio best known for its motion control enabled action game, Kung Fu Superstar and I Fight Bears, the indie games developer of FIST OF AWESOME. It was great to have them with us and they took the opportunity to network with their peers and representatives from some of the biggest gaming companies in the world.
It was very impressive to see the broad range and high quality of the games development industry in the UK represented at the awards dinner. During the conference I also got chance to speak with many startup studios and students looking to make their first steps into the games development marketplace. They were all immensely impressive and the future is looking very bright for the industry. Perforce is keen to support these startups and the most popular item on our exhibition booth (besides our cool t-shirts and the competition to win a Lego Millenium Falcon) was information about Perforce 20/20 free 20-user version. I'm looking forward to next year's event already but I am very sure the competition will be even tougher. It'll be a lot of fun though!
