Calculating FMEA Risk Priority Numbers in TestTrack

Helix ALM
With TestTrack's calculated fields capabilities, there's no need to pull data out into Excel or any other tool to start your risk assessment process. The video below is a great walk-through of how to setup what I would call a classic risk scoring matrix. The video shows how to use custom fields to capture the severity level for a failure and the likelihood of failure, then multiply those fields to get an overall risk level. http://youtu.be/GNrKyh-Bw_A The risk score is automatically calculated for every artifact after the user enters severity and likelihood of a failure for that artifact. You just need a few tweaks to model this as an FMEA risk priority number. First, create another custom drop-down field named Detection to capture the third element in the Risk Priority Number (RPN) scores. You might also rename Likelihood to Occurrence to better match the FMEA terminology. Second, define more commonly accepted Severity, Likelihood (Occurrence), and Detection levels, and the associated score that each gets in the RPN calculation. Here's an outline of typical Severity, Occurrence, and Detection levels in an FMEA setup. Finally, update the field created in the video or create a new custom calculated field for the RPN score. When you're done, you'll have something that looks like this. [caption id="attachment_11734" align="aligncenter" width="512"] RPN custom calculated field[/caption]
