Centralized Administration: P4Admin Will Assimilate You

What's New
Healthcare

Well, not really. But the upcoming 2010.2 release of P4Admin does support several new features that make it easier for administrators to manage large, complex sites.

Central authentication and changelist management

The 2010.2 release of the Perforce server added full support for centralized authentication and changelist servers. A central authentication server provides user, protections, and license administration to other servers. A central changelist server ensures unique changelist numbers across several servers. These features make multi-server administration easier.

P4Admin now recognizes when a central authentication or changelist server is in use, and displays that information on the home tab.

The user and group information is pulled correctly from the authentication server, and the protections table displays a warning that some settings are derived from the authentication server.

Password aging

P4Admin now also supports the password aging setting for groups.

Controlling P4V performance settings

The Perforce JavaScript API (P4JsApi) provides a way to centrally manage four P4V performance-related settings, including how often P4V attempts to fetch information from the server. With the 2010.2 release, these settings now take effect even if the user has not enabled any other P4JsApi features, and the user cannot override them for that server. As an administrator, I can thus provide sensible performance settings for all P4V clients. Plus, P4V will now detect a period of inactivity, and stop polling the server for updates altogether.

And everything else…

Be sure to check out the release notes for P4V, P4Merge, and P4Admin for more information on all the new features and enhancements.
