Creating TestTrack Items from Microsoft Outlook Emails

If you frequently copy and paste emails into TestTrack, you may want to use the TestTrack Outlook add-in to save yourself some extra work. The add-in allows you to create new defects, requirements, requirement documents, and test cases directly from a TestTrack menu in Outlook.

Installing the add-in

The add-in is compatible with Outlook 2003 and 2007, and installing it is easy. Download the installer, run it, follow the prompts, and then restart your computer and Outlook. You should see the TestTrack menu in Outlook. If not, you just need to perform a few more steps to get up and running.
  1. Select Tools > Trust Center.
  2. Click the Add-ins category.
  3. Select COM Add-ins in the Manage field at the bottom of the dialog box and click Go.
  4. Select TestTrack Outlook Add-in and click OK.
  5. Close and restart Outlook.

Logging in and selecting a project

Before you can add items to TestTrack, you need to log in and select a project. In Outlook, choose TestTrack > Connect To Server. Log in and select a TestTrack project. You can automatically connect to a project when you start Outlook or manually connect. Choose TestTrack > Settings to change the connection settings.

Creating an item from an email

To create a TestTrack item from an email, select the email and choose TestTrack > Create Item from Email. Select the type of item you want to add and click OK. The Add dialog box opens and you can add any additional information to the item. When you are finished, click Add to add the item to the project. Create Email From ItemAdd Defect  from email

Attaching an email to an existing item

If email tracking is enabled for a TestTrack project, you can attach an email to an existing item. Select the email you want to attach and choose TestTrack > Attach Email to Item. In the Attach Email to Item dialog box, you can search for the item to attach the email to, filter the item list, or go to a specific item. Attach Email To Defect After you select the correct item, click Add to add it to the item in TestTrack. Attached emails are available on the item Email tab.
