Improving the Git Experience for Everyone
This morning we unveiled important capabilities for companies using Git. Perforce's new solution, Git Fusion, introduces ways to use Git for projects that don’t fit neatly into a single Git repository.
When we first set out to build this product, our goal was to make the Git experience more productive for everyone, more than just helping Git play nicely with our Software Version Management solutions.
Git Fusion brings the new capability of selectively reusing and sharing elements from multiple Git repos. We call this “Repository Remapping,” which lets you push Git repos together and pull them apart in different shapes. With this, existing Git repositories can be reshaped and sized to ensure that the experience for the Git user doesn't get bogged down as project scope and history grow.
Git Fusion aims to please.
Git users can continue to use their preferred DVCS without any changes. When they want to, they can access the powerful enterprise features Perforce is known for. At the same time, release managers can stick with the tried-and-true release engineering processes they trust. And administrators get a view of all projects and teams—including code in Git repositories.
Git Fusion is unique in its ability to meet the needs of all these different constituents. Nobody has to compromise the way they want to work.
And, of course, Git Fusion brings you all the “ilities” (scalability, IP defensibility, visibility, compliance-ability, etc.) you’ve come to expect from Perforce products, extending these enterprise “musts” to disconnected Git repos.
Let us know how it works for you and if we can further refine it to improve your Git experience even more.
