MERGE 2014: What a Week!

MERGE User Conference

Last Friday saw the end of MERGE 2014. Three days of customer presentations, product deep-dives and networking ended with Perforce executives at the firing line. Don’t worry. They’re still alive and well – they just answered questions from the audience about Perforce Streams, our academic outreach program, writing custom tools, and of course, what was our CEO’s favorite beer at MERGE (A: $2 PBR)!

We heard from a range of Perforce customers at the conference: Pixar discussed how they manage large files with Perforce; Samsung talked about supporting Android-based development; Jeppesen, a Boeing Company, showed how they drive innovation through component-based development; Trend Micro spoke about Git and Perforce users working together; and several customers participated in panel discussions on Trunk-based Development with Paul Hammant and Continuous Delivery led by Jez Humble.

As always, Perforce staff offered sessions designed to help customers working in challenging environments such as large-scale and multi-site implementations, a how-to on supporting a continuous development model and tips and tricks for effective code review.

In the tradition of Perforce, we ended each day with networking events, some more conventional than others. Our gala took place at the Old Mint, San Francisco’s historic landmark, and the wrap up party was held at night club Monarch where contortionists showed off their skills on steel rings hanging from the ceiling. Not your average conference happy hours!

Personally, I very much enjoyed my first MERGE and the opportunity to talk to our customers through P4TV. We’ll post some customer interviews on our website, so check back to see what folks were talking about during the breaks and networking sessions.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us at MERGE. We look forward to seeing you at the next conference!
