McKesson at MERGE 2016: Using CI/CD to Create the #1 EHR App
For the fifth year in a row, McKesson’s iKnowMed application received the #1 ranking among Oncology & Hematology Electronic Health Records (EHR).
There are many pieces that go into creating such a great app, including our use of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment. We implemented a narrow version of Continuous Deployment, and later set up Continuous Integration before we even knew these approaches had names. Shortly after becoming Perforce users 16 years ago, we realized that its usefulness went far beyond what we expected from a version control system. We have a great team of developers, but we are also surrounded by other professionals who started using Perforce to manage documentation, configuration changes, training videos, clinical content and timely, customized news and information that can show up on the customer’s home page simply by submitting the information to Perforce Helix. Our CD and CI approaches grew from need and opportunity. Perforce Helix’s flexibility allowed this to happen.
If you are just getting started, I recommend beginning with a simple project. Is there a manual process you conduct that can be automated? Start with something small, and grow it from there.
Come to MERGE 2016, and see how we grew iKnowMed’s Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment processes to create the award-winning application.
