NetApp at Merge 2013: When Your Data is Drenched
If there’s one thing Superstorm Sandy reminded us, it’s that Manhattan is an island, and datacenter diesel engines can’t run underwater. That’s why Perforce administrators must consider all their high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR) options.
“Data protection of Perforce repositories is important to safeguard companies’ digital assets. Downtime due to unplanned events such as application failures, component failures, datacenter failures, and regional disasters can be very costly and affect the continuity of business,” says Agnes Jacob, a Partner Engineer at NetApp with more than 20 years of experience in solution architecture, software development, and technical marketing.
At Merge 2013, The Perforce Conference, she’ll explain, along with Perforce senior consultant Tom Tyler, why a robust and resilient storage system such as NetApp offers integrated data protection and high availability options for development environments.
But doesn’t all that replication add to the data load your enterprise versioning service has to handle? Not necessarily, says Jacob: “Deduplication and SnapMirror technology can significantly reduce the amount of data replicated to a remote site. Further, selecting storage solutions with integrated data protection can simplify Perforce HA and DR planning.” In other words, your servers don’t have to be SCUBA-certified after all.
