Perforce Takes it to the Court for the Cause
Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge. That's what Perforce's team Swarm did when they stepped on the court Sunday, Nov. 17th for the 2013 GitHub Third Annual Octocat Dodgeball Tournament. This year 20+ companies participated, raising somewhere in the neighborhood of $60,000 for charity.
I know, I'm with you, it sort of conjures up a strange image to consider some of the smartest and brawniest nerds in the industry, leaving their avatars behind to physically stand face to face and hurl seven balls across a court with only one mission, to pummel and annihilate each other.
Having experienced a couple of these tournaments as a player and a coach, I know first hand that beneath the costumes of 70's style gym shorts, triple striped high white tube socks, and Burt Reynold's Movember 'staches, lie ferocious and brutal competitors, making this one of the most intense sporting experiences for both players and spectators alike.
Perforce has been a solid contender since the tournament's 2011 debut with a roster representing players from HR to Engineering, and this year we made our best showing yet, reaching the semi-finals this year. Keeping form, we've already set up our social and collaborative tools, Commons and Swarm to help us debrief, review and plan our strategy to bring home the gold for next year.
Hats off to the GitHub team for doing such a great job bringing the software community together for such a fun event and worthwhile cause. If you're looking for a unique opportunity to work together with some of the most innovative companies in the industry, dare to step on the court.
I am publicly proclaiming this to be one of my favorite events in which Perforce participates.
