2013.1 Release of Perforce Software Version Management System Gives a Boost to Distributed Teams and Agile Projects
ALAMEDA, Calif. (May 22, 2013) – Perforce Software today announced the availability of version 2013.1 of its Software Version Management system, featuring enhancements to support globally distributed teams and scalable Agile development practices. Perforce solutions power the world's most demanding development environments. More than 400,000 users in over 5,500 organizations use Perforce to version and manage any variety of digital assets—from software and firmware to documents and artwork.
"As development teams become more distributed and their release cadences more rapid, they need greater support from their software management systems," said Christopher Seiwald, CEO of Perforce. "That's why our 2013.1 release focuses on two critical areas for software developers—codeline task management for greater workflow flexibility and advanced replication to support distributed teams. With these improvements and others we're helping our customers improve their software production lines, making them faster, more automated, more repeatable with more consistency and quality."
- Advanced Replication Technology Supports Distributed Teams – Advanced replication options in Perforce 2013.1 provide enhanced out-of-the-box support for highly distributed teams to control exactly what is replicated in each location. Now every team gets high-performance access to exactly what they need, when they need it. Perforce replication options are also tuned for high-performance build, test and release environments, enabling organizations to reach their goals for continuous delivery.
- Task Streams Offer Flexibility for Managing Tasks in Progress – Now Perforce users working with streams or classic branches can quickly create and use task streams for bug fixes and new features. Task streams can also be archived upon completion of the task to de-clutter the stream graph.
- Shelving Provides Lightweight Task and Code Review System – Along with task streams, shelving provides a flexible way to work on, review and promote shelved changes with quick approval. Shelves can be submitted directly or unshelved to another branch.
This new release also includes various administration improvements, which allow users to fine-tune their site maintenance and configurations using command and proxy diagnostics, as well as properties for site-wide configuration, including support for IPv6.
