Traceability: From Requirements to Check-In

Traceability is a key concern for many industries. The ability to walk back from source code check-ins to tasks to requirements is often necessary to satisfy regulatory concerns. ISO codes in manufacturing, health care regulations for medical devices, and Sarbanes-Oxley rules for financial firms are just a few of the many examples of industry rules impacting development workflow. And of course even if you work in an industry without these regulatory issues, knowing why you're changing source code is just a good idea.

Luckily, the tools exist to make traceability easy. Later this month I'll be co-presenting a webinar with TechExcel, maker of the DevSuite ALM package. We'll be exploring how to use DevSuite and Perforce together to manage software projects, from requirements to tasks to source code. Hope to see you there!
