Back to topWhat Were the Best Video Games of 2022
Some of the best video games of 2022 include:
- God of War Ragnarök
- The Quarry
- Pentiment
- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök from Santa Monica Studio won several awards at The Game Awards, including Best Narrative, Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design; and was nominated in several other categories, including Game of the Year. In addition, it also won several awards at the 26th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, and Adventure Game of the Year; and has received the most nominations for any game in the history of the British Academy Video Game Awards.
Inspired by Norse mythology, God of War Ragnarök once again follows the parlous adventures of former Greek God of War Kratos and his son, Atreus as they take on Norse gods and monsters.
The Quarry
The Quarry from Supermassive Games was nominated for Innovation in Accessibility at The Game Awards. In addition, it has also been nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-Time Project by the Visual Effects Society Awards.
Heavily inspired by slasher and monster films, The Quarry is an interactive horror game — similar to old school choose your own adventure stories — that takes players through the last night at a summer camp beset by supernatural creatures and violent locals.
Pentiment
Pentiment from Obsidian Entertainment was considered one of the year’s biggest snubs for not being nominated at The Game Awards. However, it was named Screen Rant’s 2022 Game of the Year and at the time of the 2022 The Game Awards, it was one of the highest rated Xbox Game Studios exclusive titles.
Set in the early-to-middle 16th century, this narrative adventure 2D role-playing game tasks the player with investigating a series of murders in an Alpine town. One of the most notable aspects of the game is its art style which is a mix of late medieval manuscripts, early print, and woodcuts.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
While Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands from Gearbox Software may not have been nominated at The Game Awards, it was nominated for several Golden Joystick Awards categories, including Best Multiplayer Game; as well as several National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers (NAVGTR) awards, including Lightning/Texturing.
A spin-off of the Borderlands series, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is an action role-playing first-person shooter set within the world of a fantasy-themed tabletop role-playing game run by Tiny Tina. The player takes the role of “The Newbie” as they try to survive all the challenges that Tiny Tina throws their way.

What Do the Best Game Developers Have in Common?
All the above-mentioned games, each one was built with Perforce.
Version Control
Whether a studio is an indie, AAA, or someone in-between, every single one needs version control because games are built with many types of assets: code, binary files, and digital assets (including 2D, 3D, audio, and visual files). Managing all of those as part of a game design process can be challenging without the proper tools.
Trusted by 19/20 of the top AAA studios, Helix Core can easily handle petabytes of data and tens of thousands of users while still delivering files quickly. Teams using Helix Core are able to store all of their assets in one secure, central location, as well as integrate with some of the industry’s leading game engines, including Unity and Unreal.
In addition, Helix Core connects remote and globally distributed teams and ensures that they always have instant access to the latest version of their working files — no matter where they may be located.
